Obligatory “It’s Been a While” Post
07/11/10
It’s been a long while since my last post here, but the reasons for that are pretty simple. The first is that my job has been keeping me extremely busy. Busy is good, and I’ll be posting some new portfolio projects in the next few weeks. The other reason is that I’ve started up a Tumblr blog focusing on all the little interesting things I come across on a daily basis, mostly having to do with art, design, and web development. Since that kind of stuff used to get posted here, updates will be fewer and further between as well as more news focused.
The Best Client Ever
10/22/09
I felt weak in the knees after reading this letter from Mick Jagger to Andy Warhol. Complete creative control and a name your price budget?!

10/05/09
While most designer labor over choosing a typeface for any given project, Brian Hennings of H&FJ is tasked with creating sample art to showcase the foundry’s new releases. Read more about it here.
A Macworld Cover in 3 Minutes

A fascinating little time-lapse video by Peter Belanger, covering the entire process of designing the cover for Macworld magazine.
A Different Perspective on the Designer / Client Relationship
06/01/09
This would be a hilarious video if it wasn’t so devastatingly accurate. I have had more than a few clients who are uncomfortably similar. Watch it here.
Can Design Save the Newspaper?
04/13/09
Jacek Utko’s fascinating talk from TED about the role of good design in the newspaper industry. Watch it here.

Looks like my site has just been featured in the Unmatched Style and Browsershots CSS website galleries.
Pepsi Logo Redesign
02/19/09
Mediocre logo, check. Ridiculous, elaborate design doc that attempts to rationalize logo to client, check. Read about it at Brand New.
Designers Are Hard to Work With
01/29/09
Great post by Derek Powazek on the mentality of many designers, and why they can be at times difficult to work with. I know I’ve fallen into this trap before. Read it here.
Fontcase
01/24/09
I normally wouldn’t post twice in the same day (or week for that matter) but as a designer, the just released Fontcase from Bohemian Coding has me pretty excited. Fantastic features like font comparisons, tagging, and serverless font sharing, all wrapped in a slick and intuitive iTunes stye interface brings some sorely needed fresh ideas to the stagnant arena of font management software.
Best of the Year 2008
01/24/09
An annual round-up by Netdiver of the memorable creative from the previous year. I could (and probably will) spend hours looking through them all.
Dude a Day
01/19/09
I love work like this. Daily sketches of various pop culture “dudes” from Andy Helms.
Feltron 8
01/15/09
Nicholas Feltron’s annual report on the happenings of his life during that year. Some nice information design, and bizarrely fascinating to boot. See it here.
Best & Worst Logos of 2008
12/24/08
Brand New has a roundup of the best and worst logos of 2008. Prepare to cringe.
Little Snapper
12/11/08
A new image capture application just released today. When I first read about Little Snapper the concept so good that I wondered how this hadn’t come around yet. Itunes style management of screen captures with robust tagging and sharing features. My future design inspiration archive awaits.
The Grid System
12/04/08
Nice website that collects various grid system resources. Articles, templates, and tools in a clean grid based (of course) design. Visit it here.
Inaugural Post & New Site Design
11/24/08
This is this first in what will (hopefully) be regular posts here. Look for updates on my work as well as posts about interesting things I come across in my life as a designer.
Along with adding the blog, I’ve re-designed the site to organize things differently (sorting by work or play) and reduce the file size from the older design, which was graphically intense, and not really built for speed. A few themes have been carried over from the old design, but the new is cleaner, and more minimal.
